Here’s a Q & A from our newest member to the Flik crew, Aaron “AJ” Johnson.
This dude’s the real deal, reps us hard, and shows all the kids around that it takes 55% hustle 55% heart to make a name for yourself. (I was never good as math) Keep this AJ on your watchlist…
- Who are your sponsors?
Ive been riding for DELIC skateboards for the past 2 years. The owner Anthony Ogelsby asked me to ride for them after watching me rip around one of my favorite skate parks on the Northside of Long Beach (Houghton Park). A year later I was skating an Elemental Awareness Contest and Jeff owner of Gallery Boardshop asked if id be down to rep. They carry Delic Boards so it worked perfectly. Anthony O. connected me with FliK Grip and im hyped to be getting some solid grip under my feet! He’s also been getting me some Destructo trucks which im amped on.
- How long have you been skating?
My dad skated so it was kinda in my blood. But I been skating off and on my whole life.. Id say more than 10 years! Man i feel old!
- What do you do besides skating?
Besides skating Im usually hanging out with my friends when i can. Im usually working throughout the week to keep up on bills! I shoot film as well with a VX2100. Just picked up a MK2 lenz for it. STOKED! I also edit on Final Cut. I been working on all kinds of projects. Especially with skateboarding. I recently started my own production company called EN ROUTE FILMS! We are working on a legit website where people can view all sorts of different skate montages. When its hot i go to the beach and surf or skimboard. When its cold i skate or try to hit the mountain. I try to stay involved with the community and whats going on around me.
- What is your favorite tricks?
My personal favorite trick is the Switch Hardflip. I like fakie frontside heelflips as well. I also like frontside and backside tailslides to any flip trick out.. I also enjoy taking my street tricks to transition.
- Favorite place to skate?
Right now id say that San Pedro, CA has been my holding it down as my favorite city to skate. The city of Long Beach has built a pretty dope spot at CHERRY PARK. Thanks to Danny Montoya, Rob G., Matt Bennet, Austin Stephens, and all the other heads who helped work with the city. Its probably on the best warm up spots that I can go without worries of getting the boot. But i always enjoy going to a new spot i haven’t been. I love traveling to different cities finding new spots!
- People you would like to give props to?
All the skaters who hold it down and keep it real. Also my family, my friends, my sponsors, and anyone who took the time to read this interview! Thanks to Flik Griptape. They got that FLIK!!!
